3 Tips for Self-Appreciation

Self-appreciation is really the starting point; it’s not the end game. Everything in our lives that we want to achieve, like our goals, happy relationships, more money, better spirituality, more satisfaction and fulfilment in the workplace, all starts from self-appreciation.

I am going to talk about 3 important things today to help you become aware and elevate your own self-appreciation because it’s only through that place that we can allow all our dreams and goals to manifest in our life. There’s no other way. We only get what we think we deserve, and we only believe that we are worthy and deserving, depending on the relationship we have with ourselves and how much self-appreciation and self-love we actually truly demonstrate with ourselves.

Here are 3 tips.

1. Self-Awareness

Become really aware of how you feel about yourself. If you just have the thought “I love myself,” how does that feel for you? Does it feel uncomfortable? Or do you really feel good about the feeling, “Yes I do love myself”. Whichever way you are, you will have a knowing and an awareness of where this relationship is and how much work you need to do. As my grandmother used to say, “You can never really love anyone else until you completely love yourself”, and that’s absolutely true.

So regarding self-awareness, I am going to ask you to be aware of your self-talk every day and be aware of whether it’s positive or negative. What kind of things are you saying to yourself? Are they are loving and wonderful? And if they are not, remind yourself to say, “Cancel, cancel” and overwrite that with a positive affirmation. Do it continuously and raise that awareness on self-talk and be intentional about moving towards more self-appreciation.

2. Unconditional Self-Appreciation

It’s very easy for us to love ourselves when we have done something great, or when we have achieved some goal in our life. However, I am going to ask you to love yourself and appreciate yourself without conditions. On those bad days that you have, where you make mistakes, this is when I want you to start changing the story. I want you to tell yourself to appreciate yourself more. Something like this: “Yes, I made a mistake but this is how I learn. I appreciate and love myself for being open to making mistakes because this is how I acquire more skills and more knowledge to better myself for my future.” Or, “I really messed up today, but I love myself for being okay with that. I love myself for being easy about making mistakes or messing things up because it gives me an opportunity to try it again and do better next time”. Avoid any kind of self-talk that puts you down; and remember to use the ‘Cancel Cancel’ technique.

3. What do you do to practise developing self-appreciation and self-love?

What do you practise? Encourage yourself to practise this affirmation for the next 30 days: Stand in front of the mirror, look yourself in the eye and say, “I love myself, I believe in myself and I am worthy and deserving of fulfilling all of my desires”. If hearing this makes you feel a bit uncomfortable, this means that you need this the most. If it felt okay to watch me say that, but if you were to say it yourself in front of the mirror and you felt uncomfortable, you need it the most. I can promise you this, if you do this for 30 days, every day, saying it 20 times in the morning and at night, and looking at yourself in the eye, you will absolutely change your self-image. Your confidence and self-esteem will be elevated. This is guaranteed. Whatever we tell ourselves our sub-conscious mind takes in and believes. So practise that every day.

So my friends appreciate yourself, become more aware of your self-talk, and love yourself unconditionally. Love yourself and know that all of us get things wrong, and that’s when we learn – this is wonderful, this is life, this is how we get better. And lastly, practise. Encourage yourself to practice affirming self-love, just by doing that little bit of work in the mirror. Other than that my friends, I hope this has been helpful.
