I know so many people who doubt their ability to create the life that they want. So what do they do? They lower their desire to match their current experience. Don’t ever let that be you. No matter what your situation is if you’ve got something inside your heart that you are longing to do, or to be, or to become, or to have, don’t give up on that and just settle. Don’t say, “I’ll never be able to create that; I’ll never be able to become that.” No, don’t say that.
I had a real challenge five years ago with the idea of leaving corporate and starting my own business. It really challenged me. To be honest, it terrified me; and the thing that bothered me the most was the perception that I had – that a pay-check is security. I used to read this quote by Helen Keller over and over, and over, every day, and it said, “Security is an illusion, it does not exist in nature.” I’ll leave that one with you. If you think about it enough, It will one day suddenly click and make sense. Security is an illusion, but the point is, when I was trying to make that transition out of corporate and to start my own business, it took me over a year of mental preparation. I used the Silva Method. I used to visualise almost every single day to see the future I wanted to create.
Here are some tips for you if you are in a similar situation:
- No matter if it’s a big goal or a small goal, never settle for less. The one thing I will say that really helped me through, always, was this idea that “Do what you can, with what you’ve got, from where you are.” Think about everything in your life. If you have a goal you think is unachievable, don’t go that far and have so much doubt that you don’t take action and become immobilised. Stay very present and keep thinking to yourself, what can I do, from where I am, with what I’ve got, to take me closer to what I want to be, do or have? So do what you can, with what you’ve got from where you are.
- Secondly, “Always do your best!.” And I mean that on both sides. Let’s just say you were in a corporate job, and you wanted to leave and do something on your own. Just because you have this dream of being out there doesn’t mean that you neglect where you are right now. In the job that I was in, I gave it 100 percent, even more than that. Do your best there. But also when you’re doing the best you can, from where you are, with what you’ve got towards where you want to be, do your best there too. Give it your best. Don’t just take a few small steps once a month; take a step every single day. It doesn’t matter how little it is; it doesn’t matter how big it is, just take a step every single day.
In summary, never settle for less. Do what you can with what you’ve got, from where you are, and always do your best where you are, and also where you want to go. It will give you greater self-esteem, more confidence and that’s the energy that you need to create the future goal.
